Why watching Jay Severin is important

I’m often asked why I bother to keep an ear on Jay Severin and take the time to point out his lies and distortions. “He’s just an entertainer,” people say. “You can’t take everything he says at face value.” While some members of his audience might indeed see Severin as nothing more than comic relief, I’m afraid that he has far greater impact.

Take a look at this clip of health care reform protesters. These folks are in California, but if they lived in the Boston area, you know who their favorite talk show host would be.

These folks have a right to think and say whatever they want, but the idea that their opinions and behavior are affecting my life is downright scary.

It would be a different matter altogether if these crackpots had any education or had any idea what they are talking about. They spew talking points but have no idea or concern if there is any factual basis for their utterances.

I have to agree with lynnrockets. This is indeed becoming a revolution of ignorant, uneducated sheep. Those who reason and seek to study both sides of issues are becoming a minority, and it is frightening. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and lesser lights who madden the crowds to fever pitch are worse than Hitler (their own point person) because they are feeding off the ignorant — of whom there are plenty!

This video clip is really scary for it shows how easy it is manipulate people. This is like seeing some medieval villagers getting ready to burn a witch.
The truly sad part about Jay and his ilk is that they stoke fear, spread confusion and absurd view points mainly to enrich themselves, first by keeping their jobs and second by actually influencing how the stoked up ignoramuses behave politically.
